{joomplu:797}On Saturday (8th August 2009) Marlow Rowing Club had nine winning crews at Maidenhead Regatta, taking away the Victor Ludorum prize for the most successful visiting club.

 

Success was spread fairly evenly around the club with winners in the under 16 quad (J16.4x) and Veteran D (average age 50-54) men's 8, novice adult women, novice adult men and senior mens and women's squads. Two German students, from Ulmer Ruder Club Donau E.V,  who have been staying and rowing at the club during the summer were in the winning crews. The winning crews in full were:

Tamsin Knill (stroke), Dani Phillips (bow) {joomplu:828}Tamsin and Dani are experienced members of the senior women's squad. Tamsin's brother Crispin was in the winning 8. They beat a crew from Magdalen College.

Dawn Thompson {joomplu:797}Dawn is a member of the successful women's development squad. She has only been rowing for a year and has already won in rowing and sculling races and competetd at Henley Women's Regatta and the National Championships.

A note on categories: the categories run Elite> Senior> Intermedate 1> Intermediate 2> Intermediate 3> Novice and are designed to allow competitors to race against people of approximately the same ability. Veterans and Juniors are categoried by age, not ability. Vet categories run from A (youngest) upwards. Juniors are listed as e.g. J16 for the under 16s. Not all Categories are raced in all competitions, for example, the winning crew in Intermedate 1 coxed fours had entered Intermedate 2 and were bumped up.

 

The regatta this year was back in Maidenhead, having been on Dorney Lake for two years following poor river conditions.
