May 2012 Update

Club news:

Racing

When I last wrote the club was about to attend the junior inter regional event at Nottingham and we were looking forward to the regatta season.  Well, Nottingham was abandoned due to high winds and as we know the weather pretty much set the agenda for the next few weeks.  Now that we have finally been able to start racing the results are looking good.

The junior girls travelled to Bristol Avon regatta and chalked up 9 wins between them, with a number of course records.  The womens squad went to Wallingford where they suffered a series of calamities, but recovered to race at Twickenham winning in the WIM2 4x.  The mens squad also raced at Wallingford starting their 8s campaign and performing well in a tough field.  A select group of masters went to Nottingham for the British Masters regatta where they raced hard, and the Masters B Novice 8 proudly came away with silver medals.  The junior boys and girls travelled to Peterborough last weekend where the girls won 7 events and the boys 2, with many more crews making it to the finals of their events.

On the international stage, Seb Devereux raced in the junior regatta at Munich and got a gold medal in his quad and gained lots of valuable experience.

The club’s next events are this weekend with a large group of juniors travelling to Nottingham for National Schools, and the mens and womens squads racing at Met.  Good luck to them all!

Jubilee Pageant

Two boats crewed mainly by MRC Foundation squad members are taking part in the jubilee pageant this weekend.  They will be flying the flag for the club and at the same time raising funds for the building campaign.  Well done to Paul Sermon for doing a great job organising this and allowing the club to be part of this piece of history.

Marlow Town Regatta…

…is in just a week!  Jonathan is looking for volunteers to help out on the 9th for various roles.  Contact him if you can help.

First Row Challenge has been launched so please encourage friends, family, workmates, to put crews together.  All the details are here: http://marlowrowingclub.org.uk/races/frc – print off a poster if you can and display it at work.  This is always a fun event and we’re looking for coxes to teach the crews so if you can help out please sign up at the club.

And finally:

Congratulations to Simon Storey and Claire Gray from Ray Swordy’s novice squad who are getting married this weekend.  Very best wishes to you both!
